Abstract
Glossopharyngeal neuralgia is a rare disorder. When medical treatment is not effective in the relief of the pain, surgical managements should be taken into consideration. The guideline to choose the method of the surgery on the glossopharyngeal neuralgia is still not firmly established, i.e. microvascular decompression of the root exit zone or rhizotomy, or both? The author had managed a patient with glossopharyngeal neuralgia successfully by surgery (one-session microvascular decompression of the 9th and 10th nerves and glossopharyngeal rhizotomy). He reports the case and reviews pertinent literatures.
